OCCUPATIONAL NOISE ASSESSMENTS

Are you concerned that your workplace is too noisy? Employees, union representatives or your WorkCover Authority may have approached you requesting information on workplace noise levels. According to WorkSafe, during the 15 years from 1985 to 2000, in excess of 48,000 compensation claims (5.8% of all claims) were made for work related hearing loss in Victoria.

The Occupational Health & Safety Regulations 2007 require employers to assess and control the risk of noise induced hearing loss at work. Did you know that if a noise risk is identified an Occupational Noise Assessment is required to be performed at least every 5 years or following workplace changes that are likely to affect exposure levels?

All occupational noise assessments conducted by Noise Management Services comply with the requirements of AS1269 and include:

• personal sound exposure measurements (dosimetry);
• individual noise measurements at worker positions;
• octave band analysis (where appropriate);
• prescription of hearing protection;
• suggested engineering noise controls;
• full written report; and
• colour-coded noise map.

On site Occupational Noise Assessments are conducted with no impact on productivity. Noise Management Services has conducted hundreds of noise assessments Australia wide ranging from owner-occupied small business to large multi-nationals. Sites assessed include:

• mines
• quarries
• construction sites
• distribution centres
• packing halls
• food manufacturing
• engineering/fabrication
• maintenance/workshops
• major hazard facilities
• printing halls
• road works
• slaughterhouses

Intrinsically safe equipment is available for potentially explosive atmospheres.
